Yashasvi Jaiswal | A Mesmerizing IPL 2023

Yashasvi Jaiswal is not any other average young cricketer who had it easy. In contrast, he has to fight tooth and nail to reach where he is today. IPL 2020 saw him making his debut, but it was a moment to forget. However, he has become one of the most prolific batters who can represent India in the shortest format of the game.

This article will examine how the Rajasthan Royals (RR) batter has turned the situation around.

ICC Under-19 World Cup 2020

Jaiswal came onto the scene in January 2020 when the young Indian team played the eUnder-19 World Cup in South Africa. Although India lost the final against Bangladesh, Jaiswal won the β€˜Player of the Series’ award for scoring 400 runs in the tournament.

No surprises; Rajasthan Royals picked him up in the same year in IPL. He was bought for Rs 2.40 crore. It was clear that he would be staying at the inaugural IPL champions for a very long time.

Jaiswal is having the time of his life. You, too, can have an exciting time by playing online cricket betting.

Horrendous Start in IPL

However, not everything was perfect in his life, as he had a horrendous start to his debut IPL season. Playing in UAE, Jaiswal struggled to match up to international-level cricketers. The situation was so bad that he couldn’t put the bat on the ball. He ended up playing just three matches where he accounted for 40 runs. RR promoted him to the top of the order from next season onwards. However, the results were unsatisfactory.

IPL 2021 & 2022

In IPL 2021 and 2022, he accounted for 249 and 258 runs, respectively. Nevertheless, RR management deserves the credit for not sidelining the youngster in those times. He was retained, and now he is paying back for the faith shown towards him.

Superb IPL 2023

Jaiswal had a tremendous IPL 2023 season. He started the season with two half-centuries – 54 and 60 – in RR’s opening three fixtures. The left-handed batter, who made 625 runs in 14 innings, put bowlers to the sword despite RR’s poor results in the second half of the season.

Maiden IPL Hundred & Fastest Fifty

Against MI at Wankhede, Jaiswal went all guns blazing. The 21-year-old struck his maiden IPL hundred – 124 off 62 balls. He became the fourth youngest IPL centurion after Manish Pandey, Rishabh Pant, and Devdutt Padikkal. Also, it is the second-highest individual score by an RR player.

A few days later, a 13-ball half-century at Eden Gardens saw Jaiswal register IPL’s fastest half-century. It was one of the finest knocks in the history of IPL, as the RR batter remained unbeaten on 98 off just 47 balls.

Yashasvi Jaiswalβ€˜s IPL Strike Rate (Season-wise)

● IPL 2020 – 90.90
● IPL 2021 -148.21
● IPL 2022 – 132.99
● IPL 2023 – 163.61

<H2> Struggling Years

Jaiswal had to work hard to reach where he is today. He was born in UP but then shifted base to Mumbai so that he could pursue his career in cricket. The former India U19 player had to plead to his father, a Pani Puri seller, to allow him to relocate in the first place. Jaiswal moved in with his uncle, after which his father arranged for him to stay at the milkman’s house. However, he was thrown out since he couldn’t spare time to help him with the daily chores.

Just 13, Jaiswal was now homeless in an unknown city. He moved to Azad Maidan, practiced in the morning, and stayed in the nearby tents at night. However, he would have to play well to keep using the facility. Jaiswal had no other choice but to keep performing. A gentleman called Jwala Singh saw him bat and took him under his wings. He also allowed him to stay at his house for free and cared for his food and other necessities. Jaiswal never looked back since.

Β Final Thoughts

Jaiswal has turned the heat on with the bat in this year’s IPL. It is similar to what Rahul Tripathi did last season, after which he was fast-tracked into the Indian team. Top run-scorers usually get rewarded with an India call-up after every season, and Jaiswal could be in the reckoning for the 2024 T20 World Cup.
